Unstructured Supplementary Service Data

Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is a protocol of communication between mobile network service providers computers and customer’s GSM cellphones.

USSD codes, also called “feature codes” or “quick codes,” are commonly used for checking data balance, buying airtime and communicating with customer service.

*131#, *232# and *555# are some examples of USSD codes.

D in USSD is data, meaning USSD is USS data. Data is 26. Since 26 is the Alphabet, USSD is USS cube. Mobile network operators use 3×3×3 magic cube to communicate with their customers.

3×3×3 magic cube is a code and USSD codes are magic cubes.

To buy airtime, money is converted to pin and the pin is coveyed by magic cubes from customers GSM cellphones to mobile service providers computers.

Here is an example of the mobile network operator MTN recharge pin: 3919 7521 2951 906. To buy airtime from MTN, the fifteen digits must be inserted into *555*pin# to form the USSD code *555*391975212951906#. Running the USSD code on your cell phone is invoking the airtime through a magic cube.

USSD codes are life, since data is life. Data is qi, such that USSD is USS qi. Qi energy is the means of communication between GSM cell phones and mobile network operators computers.

There are people on both sides. On one side are the staff of the mobile network service providers and on the other side are consumers. Qi is the bridge linking the two sides.

Information in the form of digital data is letters  kept in a cubic box. We use USSD codes to invoke or call the letters.

USSD is especially useful in mobile banking. Unlike mobile apps, USSD doesn’t require smartphones and internet connection.
